A Redding gas station was evacuated after a suspected bomb was found on the property on New Year's Eve.

Officials from both the Redding Police Department and Shasta County Interagency Bomb Team responded to an employee's call about a suspicious object found in front of the Circle K Gas Station at 1015 Hartnell Ave. at 7:42 a.m. on Dec. 31.

According to the police statement on Facebook, "the object was described as a cylindrical object and had what appeared to be a fuse protruding from it."

The business was temporarily evacuated. The Shasta County Interagency Bomb Team removed the object from the scene and "rendered the device safe," according to the police department's statement.

A criminal investigation has been opened and the Redding Police Department is asking anyone with information on the case to contact them at 530-225-4200.
