One of the most iconic aspects of characters in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is their ability to transform or fuse into stronger versions of themselves. Whether a fighter transforms into a Super Saiyan or teams up with another character to fuse into a new being, these techniques give them an immense power-up. As long as you pick the right characters, you should have access to these powerful maneuvers.
Various fusions and transformations in DB: Sparking! Zero are introduced through the Episode Battles in the game's story. Along with the tutorial, you may learn how to gain a new form by experimenting with the movesets of various fighters. However, it is worth noting that choosing the transformed versions of characters will prevent them from changing in different battles.
Along with the iconic energy attacks, transformations depend on which character you are using. For example, Saiyans typically have a transformation, whether it is Goku's Super Saiyan 3 form or Vegeta's jump to Super Saiyan God. Whenever you look at the character select screen, it will list a fighter's available transformations if they have any.
Making wishes in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is easy if you know how to find all the dragon balls and know what each dragon will grant you.
When you enter a battle with a character who can transform, you have to build up the ability to change by gaining Skill Points. This resource can be seen right below the profile picture for the fighter you're controlling at one of the top corners of your screen. You should see a blue bar with a number displayed slowly increasing as you attack your opponent and pull off various techniques.
A small blue arrow pointing with a number right next to it also indicates what level of transformations are available to your character. This can be found to the right of the blue meter mentioned earlier.
When you get a number next to the blue meter, you can transform. Different transformations cost different amounts of Skill Points, making some forms harder to achieve through this mechanic in DB: Sparking! Zero. P ressing the Up button on your controller's D-Pad brings up a wheel of possible transformations your character can do, with their Point cost listed next to a form's picture icon.
Some transformations may cost 3 Skill Points, forcing you to fight for a while to build up the right resource value. For example, Goku's Super Saiyan form can be transformed into when you only have 1 Skill Point, but Super Saiyan Blue costs 3 to transform into. When you have the right resources, press the corresponding button next to a transformation when you bring up the wheel menu to transform.
When you do transform, you gain access to a new list of special attacks that can vary quite strongly from the form you were just in. Notably, you do not need to transform "in order" to gain a particular form. Whenever you get the right resources to reach a certain transformation, you can skip right to it and enjoy the newfound strength that comes with that form's increase in power.
Fusion is similar to transforming in DB: Sparking! Zero's vast roster of characters, but only works when you have two members on your team who can fuse. Not everyone can merge with each other, as not every fighter in the series has a fusion form. While Goku and Vegeta can fuse into Vegito or Gogeta, other fighters like Frieza have no way to merge with other characters on your squad.
Here is a quick list of all the characters that can fuse with each other in DB: Sparking! Zero:
Similarly to transformations, you can tell on the character select screen when two fighters have a fusion with each other. During a battle, you can pull up the same wheel you use for transformations and press R1 or L1 on your controller to bring up a wheel for fusions. These also cost Skill Points to do, at usually a much higher cost than some transformations in the game.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is set to release this week, and overall, it's a stunning return to the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise after almost 20 years.
Some fusions have transformations of their own, such as Gogeta having a Super Saiyan form. You can immediately fuse into the stronger form of a fusion if you have enough Skill Points, but these will always cost the most. You may need to fight for a long time against a difficult opponent in DB: Sparking! Zero to gain the resources you need for such a powerful fusion and transformation.
As you might expect, fusions have completely different playstyles than individual characters. A fusion is a totally new fighter, with unique attacks and special techniques you gain access to once you merge characters. Those who transform or fuse in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero can gain incredible strength to reach greater heights and take down enemies who would normally be a struggle to take down.
