What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 26th)
The reign of Pokémon continues
After last week's release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you might have thought that it would have been a slightly quieter one for Nintendo Life this time around - well think again!
To say that it has been a week of Pokémon would be an understatement. We have discussed the games' best new 'mon designs, noted 30 things that you might have missed, gave our thoughts on how the games' open world might be improved and published guides on just about everything that you could possibly want to know - all aboard the Pikachoochoo train!
We have also had a week of contrasts in the reviews section, giving our thoughts on everything from Resident Evil 3 to Retro Goal by way of a little Just Dance 2023. Now if those selections don't make for a wild triple-bill then we don't know what will.
Now, some of our writers have shared their plans for a spot o' weekend gaming. Have a read through what we're up to and then take to the comments to let us know your video game plans.
Happy weekend everyone!

It has taken me a long time to get round to playing this one, but this week I finally started Metroid Dread. Here's my hot take so far: it's a really good game. Will I be playing even more of it over this weekend? You betcha!
In a completely different vein of play, I have also picked up my GBA again over this past week and remembered that it might just be my favourite console of all time. There was something about seeing all of the Scarlet and Violet chat that made me want to go back to where it all started for me, so I have been playing Pokémon Ruby to remind me of the good old days and it's still really good!
There's not going to be a whole lot of gaming in the pipeline for me this weekend, but I am currently playing through some Sonic Origins. The original games are just perfect for short stints: jump in, whizz through a level, jump back out. Perfect. If I’ve got time, I might carry on my marathon through the Gears of War franchise, but this weekend is mostly going to be spent chilling with the family.
I'll be working a lot this weekend, so I don't know how much game time I'll have, but when I get the chance, I'll be playing more Dishonored. As for games on the Switch, I might get some more Pokémon in... if I'm not sick of it from all the guide writing!
I have slowly but surely climbed my way to the top of Ring Fit Adventure. Discipline is the corner stone of proper health and I need to shape up once and for all. Retro Goal is proving to be an excellent surprise in a genre that often feels stale for decades. I hope to finally start my playtrough of Sifu this weekend and try not to get sidetracked with eShop gems along the way. Make no mistake, I’m clearing up my schedule for next week's release of Front Mission 1st.
Game of the Week is Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher. My physical copy arrived at long last and being a fan of the movie genre I think I will be spending my time here instead of the recent Pokémon offerings.
This weekend I'll be continuing my adventure in Pokémon Scarlet. My party at the moment is comprised of the fire starter, Gyarados, Klawf, Kirlia, Spidops and the special flying Pikachu. So far the adventure has been great. Despite the technical issues, I'm loving getting lost in the "open-world" design of the Paldea region for hours on end. The music is also pretty funky! Apart from Pokémon, I'll probably also be spending some time with VS. Super Mario Bros. from the Arcade Archives collection. I had some spare credit on the Switch eShop, and it's the first time the Nintendo line has ever been on sale, so I went for it. Have a good weekend, everyone!
